Our Aim

Our aim is to create positive impact, one snack at a time – using our influence to help build an ethical, sustainable food system that supports better futures for everyone involved.

We know this is only achievable through determination and collaboration. That’s why we’re on a journey with our teams and business partners to create snacks people love and trust.

We’re working to ensure every action we take is better than the last, benefiting customers, consumers, employees and people throughout our supply chains.

For every crop grown with less water, every packet made with less plastic, every employee empowered to realise their full potential and every artificial flavour swapped for the real deal, we get that bit closer to being the business we want to be, snack by snack.

New Zealand Sustainability Highlights

Up to 88%

less virgin PET

Our trays made from NZ kerbside recycled PET reduce the amount of plastic we import into NZ by up to 88% or up to 290 tonne per year*

*Maximum recycled PET content determined by availability of post-consumer PET.

Less SnackaChangi film

We reduced SnackaChangi by size (but not the weight of the product) in 2023 resulting in using 7% less plastic per bag. This lead to us reducing our SnackaChangi plastic use by greater than 2 tonnes per year.

Less Nice & Natural Film

Keeping your product the same size, we reduced the amount of plastic wrapping resulting in 5 tonnes less plastic a year in your favourite Nice and Natural snacks. Same great product, less packaging!

Certified Renewable Electricity

By being a Meridian Certified customer, we're not only showing our support for 100% renewable energy generation, we're also helping to provide funding for community projects that reduce carbon emissions.

What's Griffin's Snacks doing?

We know that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is key to keeping global warming to a minimum and we are absolutely doing our part, by signing on to SBTi - Science Based Targets Initiative.

SBTi take the goals set by the Paris Climate Agreement and distill them into functional goals to help businesses like us reduce our carbon foot print.
At Griffin's Snacks we are putting measures in place to reduce our operational emisions by 50% and our supply chain emisions by 30%.

Environmental responsibility

Changes for the better

We are commited to reducing packaging waste in the world and we're doing that in a number of ways.

We are eliminating all unnecessary packaging where we can, this could look like reducing the height or length of packaging (but not the weight of your delicious snacks) or by removing plastic trays inside our biscuits and crackers where we can without compromising on quality.

We are also continuously working towards increasing the amount of recycled plastics we use in our packaging meaning we reduce the amounts of virgin plastic we import into New Zealand.

In addition to reducing the amount of packaging we are using we have designed all our snacks with recycling in mind. All our biscuit trays and product packaging made from paper and cardboard can go in your kerbside recycle bin up and down NZ. We've also made sure that our biscuit and bar wrappers, as well as our chippie packs are suitable for return to store soft plastics programs across NZ while we work with industry bodies on a longer term collection and recycling plan for soft plastic.

Why do we use it?

Plastics are an important part of keeping our food safe and hygenic on their journey from our bakery and snacks plants to your home. 

Did you know that globally, food waste is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions? Plastics and packaging help us keep our snacks at their best so you can enjoy them whenever you want to create a happy snacking moment.

Until new lower carbon solutions can be found we will keep focusing on minimising our plastic use.
